Ministry of Minority Affairs (MOMA), Government of India, has released the notification for 2011 for the award of scholarships to Minority students on Merit cum means basis. Students must have enrolled in Under Graduate/Masters/Post Graduate course in a recognized institute to be eligible for the scholarship. Various courses are supported, such as BE/BTech/MTech/PG diploma in Cement tech/Fashion Tech from NIFT/MBA/PGSB/PGDM/Exec PGDM/BPharm/MPharm/Architecture/Planning/MCA/Medical/Paramedical/Veterinary/Animal husbandry/CA/CS/ICWA/Law.
In total, there are 20000 scholarships on offer for students belonging to Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists and Parsi communities in nearly 70 recognized Institutes.
Note that students can only apply for scholarships in their resident state irrespective of the state in which he/she is pursuing education.
You must have secured admission to any of the above technical/professional courses through a competitive examination, if not, you should have at least scored 50% in your SSC/12th/UG level. Also, your combined annual household income must be below Rs.2.50 lakh.
Selected of students will be based on merit only. Students who are selected for the award of scholarship will not be eligible to receive any other scholarship.
For hostellers, a sum of Rs.30000 per year would be given and for Day Scholars’, it would be Rs.25000 per year (In case course fee amounts to a greater figure, complete fee would be provided).
Eligible and in-need students should apply online by visiting this ministry page. Visit the Student registration and proceed to complete the application and take a print out of the same. This print out and other required documents (Xerox only) must be sent to the Institute where you’ve secured admission.
Last date to apply online is 10 September 2011 (first time applicants).
In case you are renewing your current scholarship, you have time up to 30 December 2011.
Update: The above information is with regards to 2011 MOMA Scholarship notification. Like in 2011, Minority Ministry releases notification every year around August time during which eligible students can apply. The scholarship advertisement will be printed in all leading papers.
