Make an extra ‘add a widget’ in your blog

by Sriraj on February 22, 2009

You may have changed your blogger theme since your previous theme (template) did not have a ‘add a gadget’ or ‘add a page element’ in a place where you wanted it to be.
Blogspot is designed in such a way that even a novice in blogging will find it easy to make a blog and publish a post.
There is certainly a way to add a ‘add a gadget’ page element in a place you want and there is no need to switch to other templates in search of this.
Now to do this login to your blogger admin area first. Then click on ‘Layout’ and then go to ‘edit HTML’ area.
Its better to check the ‘expand widgets template’ just for this test period.
Now in your template editing area search for showaddelement=’no‘. For any searching its better to use ctrl+f key.
Press CTRL+f and enter your search element in the search box which appears. In this case search for showaddelement=’no‘.
The entered characters automatically gets highlighted and hence there might be no need to enter showaddelement=’no’ in whole.
Once you find that, change the ‘no’ factor to yes and save the changes. Look the changes it made by going to your page elements area.
In some cases there may be widget limiting factor. If you find maxwidgets=’1′,change it to maxwidgets=”, which says to include any number of widgets.
There will be many other showaddelement=’no’ instructions in your theme and you can change any number of them to your liking but make sure that your page is not stuffed up with all widgets.
And not to forget, you can always drag and drop your page elements to the place you like in the new blogger. This may not be always possible and in those cases you can use the above mentioned method.
This method can be best used for placing Adsense in such a place where you think can get a higher CTR.

Hello,
for the last few days, I’ve been searching for method to add ” subscribe via email – delivered by Feedburner” as in your this page. What I’ve got is the popular orange colour RSS Feed icon. But I want to get added same subscription box delivered by feedburner as your this page contains in above right hand side space. Please help me out. How can I get the same subscription box added to my blogs.

One more issue I am facing these days, I am not able to claim feeds. When I login with my google accounts in feedburner.com, I am able to login but when I click to go to claim feeds or transfer feedburner to my google adsense account then it shows that the username doesn’t exist. What can I do? Waiting for your response.

Thanks & regards,
Pinkki Manohar

What you see here is the default subscription widget that feedburner provides. You can get the code from ‘Publicize’ section of your feedburner account. Just copy that code and paste it in your blogger sidebar using a html/JS widget.
As far as the second question goes, I may be able to help if I understand what the problem is exactly. What ‘username’ are you referring to there?
