The much talked about car in the SUV category in recent past is the Toyota Fortuner. And finally, we hear an official word from Toyota Kirloskar motors that the car will be launched by September 2009.
Fortuner will be assembled at the Toyota Kirloskar Motors plant in Bidadi and its price tag is expected to be near 20 lacs. The diesel engine is an advanced common rail engine powering 163 PS with a torque of 343 Nm @3200rpm. It is also an all wheel (4) drive.
The International model of Fortuner has the following specifications:
Length: 4695mm
Breadth: 1840mm
Height: 1790mm
Displacement: 2982cc (Diesel) and 2694cc (Petrol)
Tyres: 265/70 R16 Alloys
Wheelbase: 2750mm
Ground clearance: 220mm
Minimum turning radius: 5.7 mtrs
Fuel tank capacity: 65 ltrs
However whether this will be the same with the Indian variants remains to be seen.
Some of the exciting features of Fortuner include projector headlamps, Navigation system, electronically adjustable driver seat, air conditioner in the ceiling for second and third row, traction control, electronic brake force distribution, Blue-tooth connectivity etc.

Fortuner is priced at Rs.18.5 lakhs unfotunately
Kudos to XYLO for forcing the launch of FORTUNER which was eagerly awaited by many in India for the past 5 years.It will be good for Toyota if FORTUNER is priced around 13-14 lakhs. At 20 lakhs it will cater to a niche market competing with Honda CRV, FORD Endeavour, Chevrolet Captiva ,Mitsubishi Pajero & outlander while XYLO will walk away with the majority of the market.
I am also waiting for ‘Toyota Fortuner’ “The Ultimate SUV”
