Maruti Suzuki Dzire review

We know how successful Maruti Swift is in India, in fact, it leads and stills leads the compact car segment in India. Seeing the success of the Petrol version, Maruti introduced the Diesel version of Swift and guess what happened?

Diesel breaks all records in its segment and remains the best seller. Not just because it’s a Maruti Suzuki’s product but because of its sheer performance. Boy, the moment you step on the gas pedal, the car shoots off.

Now what?

You may know that Maruti is quite good at using its Brands and engines. We saw how it introduced Zen estilo, which is just a change in the exterior shape of Wagon R. If we keep aside whether that was a successful move or not, Maruti Suzuki India has once again tried to cash in with the hugely popular brand of Swift.

It introduces Swift Dzire.

If you’ve driven the original compact Swift, then you may be disappointed by this cars performance. Simply put on, it has everything same as the Swift technically (both petrol and diesel) but has an additional boot at the back. Looking from sideways, it looks like two different cars glued together. Maruti could have at least changed the front of the car making it look a bit curvy just as other cars in this segment look. But the Swift bonnet curve for Dzire, doesn’t look good at all.

As I said earlier, Dzire has the same engine as the compact Swift powering by a 1298cc Petrol engine and a 1248cc DDiS diesel engine. It delivers a maximum power of 87bhp at 6000 rpm and a maximum torque of 113 N-m at 4500 rpm for the petrol versions and 75bhp at 4000 power and 190 N-m massive torque at 2000 rpm.

Now since the technical specifications remain the same, if there is any thing that should cause a slug in its performance compared to Swift, it should be the extra weight at the back. And also because of its extra boot, it looses the zippy nature of the compact swift.

So if you are a frequent long distance traveller who needs that extra bit of boot to carry the baggage and want the performance of Swift (or nearly), then this may the car for you.

The Lxi (Petrol) version is priced at Rs.450053

Vxi – Rs.496076

Zxi – Rs.585204

The Ldi (Diesel) version is priced at Rs.536254

Vdi – Rs.580361

Zdi – Rs.661828. All prices are ex-showroom Hyderabad.

  2. Compared to the hatchback, the most notable changes in the sedan are in the top-end variants that now come with standard steering mounted controls for the music system and the new music system has been well integrated into the dashboard to add a lot of charm. The DZiRE also has a comfortable seating position for the rear occupants compared to the Swift hatchback.
