Swype keypad typing tips – review on I9000

by Raghav on September 25, 2010

I’m using a Samsung Galaxy S device since a month or so but really didn’t use Swype till now. Now that Swype for Nokia is available, I tested the Swype app on Nokia 5800 and felt that it could be the last App that could help typing fast on those resistive touch screens of Nokia. Since then, I’ve been constantly using Swype to type in on my Galaxy S, and found that it is indeed extremely useful, since Galaxy S has a Capacitive touch screen.

If you use Swype for the first time, you’ll be presented with a tutorial before you type anything. If you don’t bother to go through that tutorial, you’ll hate Swype for sure.

That tutorial clearly explains how to go about some special situations, like punctuations, double letters, capital letters, numbers etc

For quick help, I’ll explain them here:

Typing Double letters

Say we are typing ‘happy’. You simply swype across the letters ‘hapy’, but while you’re on the letter ‘p’, just do a circle like thing and then proceed to ‘y’.

Punctuation marks

Let’s say we want to type ‘You’re naughty’. Simply consider that single quote as a letter and swype across that after ‘u’ and before ‘r’. So it’ll be y-o-u-‘-r-e, break here, n-a-u-g-h-t-y

Typing Numbers

Numbers are present on top of some characters, like number 1 on letter r, 2 on t etc. Simply long press those letters to enter the corresponding number.

More cool tricks with videos can be found right in your mobile or at here.

Only one (possible) disadvantage that I could see by using Swype is that the screen gets dirtier with track like finger prints.
