ChatOn, the BBM like messenger from Samsung that came in to limelight a few weeks ago has finally surfaced in the Samsung Apps and Android market. It was said earlier that this messenger will support wide variety of platforms besides Android. While that is true, it appears as if it is only available for Android users, requiring iPhone, Bada and BlackBerry (there will also be a web version) to wait a little longer.
With ChatOn, you can send messages (1-1 or group), share calendar entries, contacts, Music, pictures, voice messages and location.
While setting up is really simple, just requiring you to enter your mobile number and enter the verification code which you’ll get as an SMS, it is how you proceed after setting it up, that is not laudable.
There is no way to scan your contacts list to check if any one is on ChatOn already. Meaning, you have to individually enter mobile numbers of your friends and check if they are using ChatOn. If yes, you can add him/her as your Buddy. If not, you can invite them through various services such as text, email, facebook, wifi etc. There is not even a group invite option, which leaves this app pretty useless at this stage (unless you have heck of patience inviting friends one by one).
