Nokia Messaging: Email App for your Nokia mobile

by Sai on April 21, 2010

For popular Nokia phones like 5800 xpress music, it was the default Mailbox that resides in the Messaging folder that used to act as a tool to access the email (besides being able to use the mobile versions of the email service provider through the native browser directly). But ever since the Nokia email has graduated to ‘Nokia Messaging’, the pretty App has become one of the best emails clients for Nokia’s Symbian Devices.

Download and setup

Now that the App has graduated from beta, you can download it from the Ovi store. The setup is pretty straight forward once you installed the App. Click on either email or email setup icon and follow the on screen instructions. This client can act as a real push email service giving you an instant notification as and when an email hits your Inbox. Remember that you can set up up to 10 email accounts on your Nokia Messaging App. All major email service providers like Gmail, Yahoo, (MSN) Live, Ovi (of course) are supported.

But also note that if you need real time notifications, Sync must be ON all the time and that can empty your phone’s battery pretty soon. However, in the settings, you can choose ‘What to Sync’ and ‘When to Sync’ and can even set it up to stop Sync if the battery level reaches 15 or 20%.

One feature that it lacks is the absence of manual Sync. You can only set the Sync to happen once every 15, 30 mins or 1, 4, 12 hours but you cannot manually Sync when required.

When the network settings are set to ‘Default’ the client tries to access the server based on your preferences, WiFi first, 3G second, EDGE/GPRS 3rd etc.

The Price of the client(App)

I’m not really sure if this is a paid App or a free one. It’s listed as Free in the Ovi store but the welcome email that I received from Nokia isn’t that pretty (the one you see in the Image). It says that once the trial period expires, I will have to pay to use the App and there’s no mention of how long the trial period lasts.

The App is nice but it somehow looks very heavy.
